This page ranks the highest grossing movies ever made by worldwide box office revenue. Filter the list by release year or genre, and sort by revenue, audience rating, or popularity. Each row shows worldwide gross, production budget, and estimated profit, and opens to full credits and details.
All-time rankings on this site, and on most box office sites, use nominal dollars. They are not adjusted for ticket price inflation. This systematically favours recent releases: a film that sold a hundred million tickets in 1977 will rank below a film that sold half as many in 2025, purely because tickets cost several times more now. Read these rankings as a record of revenue collected, not of tickets sold or cultural reach.
The profit column is a simple subtraction of production budget from worldwide gross. It is an estimate and not studio net profit. It excludes marketing spend, which frequently runs to half or more of production cost again, and it ignores the exhibitor split, meaning studios receive only around half of gross ticket revenue. A film showing a modest positive figure here may well have lost money theatrically.
Combined domestic (United States and Canada) and international theatrical ticket sales. It excludes home video, streaming licensing, television rights, and merchandise, which for many franchises exceed theatrical revenue.
